7 Bible Verses On Corporal Punishment
In many countries spanking children is against the laws of the land.” Even so-called Christian countries are against corporal punishment stating that it is abuse.” That is an ironic statement since the Bible that Christians say they believe admonishes us that naughty children must be spanked at times.” Here are the top seven Bible verses in favor of corporal punishment from the wisest man who ever lived, King Solomon, in the book of Proverbs.”
(1) Prov.” 10:13 “In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.”
(2) Prov. 13:24 “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.”
(3) Prov. 22:15 “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.”
(4) Prov. 23:13 “Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.”
(5) Prov. 23:14 “Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.”
(6) Prov. 26:3 “A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back.”
(7) Prov. 29:15 “The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.”
The fourth Bible text is probably the most informative concerning a world concerned about abusing children. It says “if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.” (Prov. 23:13)
So we have to train our children as what we instill in them now t6hey will have throughout their lives:
Prov. 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Based on the foregoing texts their sticking to true values have to do somewhat with the stick. Shall be use belts only for slack clothes and not for slack children? Which is more important? Some say that we should not beat children and when criminals go to jail they get corporal punishment sometimes by a corporal too! That is much too late. Prevention is better than cure. Of course correction must be done reasonably as we have seen before. These two texts show that:
Eph. 6:4 says “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”
Col. 3:21 adds “Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.”
Finally, physical punishment may seem an unpleasant task but Paul in Heb 12:11 says of our being corrected by Jesus saying:
“Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. “
Think of all this as a Post Office scenario. If you want to get the stamp of God’s virtues on children there must at times be licks or the stamp will not stick.
